Florence Buckley

Nurses in Active Duty project, got in touch and brought to our attention Florence. This ongoing project of In From The Cold Sacrifice Remembered, highlights the individuals who died in the service of Britain and the Commonwealth during two world wars.

They are seeking the service men and woman who are missing from the official Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) list of casualties. That includes the non soldiers.

Florence can be found in one of the many Buckley graves. She is the daughter of Arthur and her home was in Western-Super-Mare.

A military nurse, born 22 January 1877, she died 25 July 1918, in service at the Third Southern General Hospital in Oxford. Florence grew up in Tunstead in Greenfield.

Also in this Grave, her father Arthur Buckley buried 17/05/1913 aged 68, from Ashton-Under Lyne and lived at Tunsteads in Greenfield at a cost of 76/- s.

The wife of Arthur Jane Barber who was buried 30/12/942, having died in Weston-Super-Mare aged 94. Born 1848 in Holmbridge, Kirklees.

This grave is listed by the Commonwealth War Graves as the son of Captain Francis and Dorothy Bebba Rose Buckley (nee Burman), Lieutenant Charles John (364739) was buried here, 22/07/1947 aged 20.

He died as a result of head injuries in the military hospital based in Netherby near Oxford. He is recorded as having died on active service in a lorry accident with the Royal Engineers 164 Rly. Operating Sqn.

Dorothy Bebba Rose born in Belford, Northumberland passed away in March 1976and is buried here with her husband Captain Frances Buckley, who passed away in March 1949. He served in both the First and Second World War. Doreen, was a nurse when they met and married in 1918.

They also had a son named George who took part in the D Day landings before serving in Burma. They also had a Daughter, Maude who served her country in the WRNS (signals) during WW2.

There is also indication that there is Esq Richard Buckley, Hollville in Greenfield is also buried here but this needs to be verified.
