A big part of caring for the churchyard is the process of collecting information on the state of the structures, paths and other hazards. Not only to protect historical artefacts, we also have a duty of care.
Providing a means of collecting and sharing this information, is quite difficult, for the time being visitors and volunteers can use the contact us, button to write an email and submit pictures and information about the condition of a particular plot.
- Volunteers to carry out a condition surveys
- Owners and visitors to report a hazard
- Owners to let us know that they are taking care of a grave
We advice that you use due diligence when visiting the churchyard, please read the access statement, please do not climb, push or pull at any structures.
Training can be provided if you wish to assist our team in collecting condition surveys, if you would like to get involved to protect, care, repair and maintain the memorials, please get in touch. There are some guidance notes on the website as well, so please take a look.
Remember that you need church permission to make any alterations, inter ashes or add additional inscriptions, if in doubt please ask. Sometimes we need Diocese permission for some alterations, so please bear in mind that this is a Church of England churchyard and therefore some strict regulations.
If you are an owner who is caring for a family plot, by providing your contact details we can make sure that you are kept informed with what we at Saddleworth St Chad are doing.
