Rev John Sutcliffe

An article in the Huddersfield Chronicle (West Yorkshire) Issue 487, printed Saturday 16th July 1859, Notabilities of Saddleworth, by a young Mountaineer discusses Mr Sutcliffe, not native of Saddleworth but an inhabitant. He was the minister of the parish church but was addicted to drinking! The article goes on to mention several anecdotes circulating and repeats a couple.

Records indicate that John Sutcliffe was a curate at some point between 1800-1830, during Mr Zouche’s incapacity.

Reported in the Leeds Mercury, October 27th, 1837 was the marriage of James Bradbury of Delph to Miss Shaw of Dale by the Rev J Sutcliffe.
