George Mellor

Hervey Mellor was the infant son of George and Martha Ann, who was buried 25/07/1870, then John George aged 12 was buried 30/06/1875.

George aged 53, was buried 19/10/1882 followed by his wife Martha Ann aged 85, buried 17/09/1914 who was living in Mossley

There is two additional inscriptions that were added to the grave ledger, which relate to his grandsons.

Private Ernest Mellor of the 3rd Battalion Manchester regiment who died of his wounds can be found buried in the Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France. died May 23rd 1915 aged 20 years. Ancestry.co.uk indicate that he was part of the 1st Battalion?

Also for Private Nelson Mellor, of the 23rd Battalion Manchester Regiment who was killed in action in France August 20th 1916 aged 25 years. His name is noted on the Thiepval Memorial, which is dedicated to the missing of the Somme, with no known grave. A quick search on Ancestry.co.uk reveals that he was awarded a medal.
