Plein Air Artists from Les Journée des Peintures

Somewhat of an annual tradition, this group of international artists meet up in Saddleworth for one week and together (with local artists) explore the area. Various families host the artists and organiser, Helen Campbell, sets out an itinerary of inspired locations around Saddleworth where artists can paint outdoors and then exhibit their new works in the art gallery every afternoon at the Museum.

On Monday, Saddleworth Church and ‘The Cross Keys Inn’ was the inspired location. In the spirit of hospitality and a warm welcome, church was open and Carol Whittle kindly provided some hot refreshments, which gave some relief from the horrendous weather outside.

It was very nice that we could be open and available to have a chat about the heritage of the building, especially when this years theme for Heritage Open Days is Inspirational places. Where we explore our past for creatively inspired Saddleworth people, which also links into our Young Artist Competition and Art Festival, which will be held 9th to 17th September.
