Original Letter.

Whilst indexing the churchyard, I have the pleasure of working through the correspondence of previous Sextons. Using their archive to enrich our digital index with new information and link documents associated to a particular plot or family.

Today, I have come across an original letter from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government. Dated 20th April 1967.

The letter is rich with historical context and reflects the government’s priorities for collective responsibility to protect our culture and heritage.

Under section 32 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1962, the Minister had a duty to compile lists of buildings of special architectural or historic interest.
