To help grave owners, we are introducing an approved list of Stonemason’s who are registered with NAMM or BRAMM.
Accreditation means that workmanship conforms to a minimum standard. That the company have a health and safety policy to protect the public and their employees.
They will also make sure that any works carried out in the yard will have the necessary permissions in place before you make a purchase.
In the past, stories indicate that there used to be a quarry below the new yard, from which some of the memorials in the yard were sourced. Records also indicate that the sexton Benjamin B Bradshaw, also was skilled at adding inscriptions to memorials and he is commended for his lettering.
Sextons, T Corner and his son B Corner are credited for the introduction on adding plot numbers to the stonework, you may notice the inscription of T. Corner and then a number on some of the plots. We are also fortunate that some Stonemasons added their name too. This is important from a historical point of view, as the records are somewhat vague.
Memorial Masonry is an age-old craft which requires the skill and expertise of a specialist, who has a commitment to provide an ethical standard of service.
Whether you are refurbishing, adding an inscription, or purchasing a new one, it is important to discuss the stability and suitability of your design choices.
