Pastoral and Flower Guild

Flowers in church have historically been brought into places of worship. Often prepared by volunteers. One such volunteer was Betty Booth. She retired approx 2002. She had a long service of caring for the flower arrangements at St Chad.

It took 12 people to replace her. In 1981, flower arranging in the Church of England gained official recognition. This was with the formation of the Church of England Flowers Arrangers’ Association (CEFAA).

At St Chad’s, the guild has become a great way of learning the art of flower arrangements. Great friendships have ensued. Through retirement, though numbers are dwindled to 6 but a few willing extra hands often help.

Flowers are arranged with love and care for major and minor festivals. They are also arranged for significant life events like weddings, christenings, and funerals. The guild has been self funding from donations. Families can appoint their own florist. The guild will slightly supplement existing arrangements if a florist has not been appointed.

Church is a much visited place, with superb flower arrangements which are a delight and offer a welcoming atmosphere.
