Welcome to Saddleworth Church Bell ringers. We are a group of volunteers who ring for Sunday services, weddings and other occasions of note. Historically there has been a tradition of bell ringing since the installation of the bells.
Jeff and Nina took over the running of the team about 15 years ago. Prior to that Albert Wood oversaw the bellringing.
Church bells are the most historic sound many of us ever hear. In 1781 a faculty was obtained to place six bell in the tower, replacing the older 3 bells which were considered so small as to be insufficient to the purpose of giving notice to distant parts of the chapelry.
Bell ringing is a team activity that stimulates the brain and helps keep you fit, it also makes a glorious sound! Some consider ringing to be their contribution to church life, others do it for the pure pleasure it brings.
